Deputyship of International Organizations and Agreements
The Authority’s Agency for International Organizations and Agreements works to enhance and maximize the Kingdom’s benefits from the multilateral trading system and regional and trade agreements, including free trade agreements, in order to facilitate market access and reduce barriers facing Saudi exports. It also follows up on developments to ensure the protection of the Kingdom’s interests within international and regional organizations and represents the Kingdom in meetings of presidents, ministers, and experts concerned with foreign trade-related matters.
Mandates
1- Representing KSA in the World Trade Organization and regional and international organizations and forums related to foreign trade, Arab, regional positions and international.
- Participating in bilateral negotiations with countries seeking accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as with other international, regional, and Arab organizations, in coordination with the relevant government entities.
- Working to maximize the benefits of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s cooperation and membership in international and regional organizations and their standing committees, and following up on the recommendations and decisions issued by their ministerial councils with the relevant departments and entities within the Kingdom.
- Following up on the implementation of the Kingdom’s commitments toward international, regional, and Arab organizations, as well as monitoring the implementation of decisions issued by those organizations and their affiliated committees, in coordination with the relevant entities within the Kingdom.
- Monitoring the implementation of commitments by WTO member states.
- Coordinating among various entities within the Kingdom on matters related to international trade.
- Promoting economic cooperation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and coordinating positions and policies with member states within international organizations.
- Following up on trade dispute settlement cases related to the Kingdom at the World Trade Organization.
2- Proposing recommendations regarding customs tariffs and referring them to the competent authority to complete the necessary procedures.
3- Supervising the work of technical teams emerging from the Saudi negotiating team responsible for coordinating and approving offers, negotiating positions, and matters related to the World Trade Organization, free trade agreements, and bilateral, regional, and international agreements.
4- Acting as a point of contact and consulting regularly with both the public and private sectors, and organizing workshops to obtain inputs and requirements related to policies and agreements, and ensuring their alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
5- Developing strategies for the advancement of trade agreements and policies to ensure the achievement of the Kingdom’s economic interests.
6- preparing studies, research, and working papers required to evaluate free trade agreements, obligations arising from the WTO, and their impact on the national economy, and working on their development.
7- Contributing to raising awareness among both the public and private sectors regarding opportunities and commitments related to the Kingdom’s foreign trade and any developments thereto.
8- Following up on the implementation of agreements signed between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and international organizations in the field of foreign trade.
9- Coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affaires regarding all Gulf, Arab, and international participations.
10- Continuously working with relevant entities within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to activate and maximize the benefits from services provided by international and regional organizations.
11- Nominating qualified Saudi professionals to work in regional and international organizations, and coordinating with relevant departments and competent entitles in the Kingdom to participate in government expert meetings held by regional and international organizations.
12- Monitoring and reviewing countries’ positions in economic organizations to ensure proper preparation of the Kingdom’s stance, defend its interests, and maximize its gains.
13- Coordinating positions with G20 member states on issues of importance to the Kingdom to defend its interests and maximize its gains, and achieve desired objectives through coordination during meetings and between capitals and other international organizations.
14- Cooperating with economic organizations supervised by the Ministry of Commerce and other trade-related organizations in developing appropriate programs in capacity building, technical support, and the development of trade and investment policies. This also includes cooperation in preparing necessary studies and enhancing knowledge of trade policies to serve the Kingdom’s various commercial interests and maximize its gains, in addition to studying relevant initiatives and proposals submitted by those organizations and centers.
