His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi, Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the board of directors of the General Authority of Foreign Trade participated with his accompanying delegation in the ministerial meeting of G20 trade, investment, and industry working group(TIIWG), which was held between 21 – 23 September 2022. In Bali, Indonesia. ​​​

His Excellency confirmed that during the Indonesian presidential year the meeting is a continuation of GCC countries’ great efforts to mitigate the impact of global challenges to shape the future of trade and investment. As well as its response to global crisis by discussing solutions to support essential reforms of WTO in the light of the 12th Ministerial Conference of WTO results. In addition, the role of multilateral trading system is to strengthen the achievement of sustainable development goals, spur sustainable and overall investments in all clean and low emission technologies including renewable energy to accelerate economic recovery, and examine roles that G20 can adopt to ensure members’ ability to benefit from digital trade and to foster access of MSMEs participation in GVCs. The member states confirmed their sustained support for the Kingdom’s results during its G20 presidency of Kingdom contribution to the impact of COVID —19 pandemic on trade and investment by a list of short- and long-term measures to support global trade and investment. Besides discussing opportunities for digital transformation for inclusive and sustainable manufacturing and discussing strategies for supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to adopt industry 4.0 techniques. ​​​

Bilateral meetings were held by Al-Kassabi in the light of the meeting with H.E. Mr. Zulkifli Hasan Minister of Commerce of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Piyush Goyal Minister of Commerce and Industry of Indian Republic, H.E. Ms. Katherine Tai United States Commerce representative, H.E. Mr. Ebrahim Patel Minister of Commerce and Industry of South Africa, H.E. Mr. Domien O’Conner Minister of Commerce and Export Growth of New Zealand, H.E. Mr. Gan Kim Yong Minister of Commerce and Industry of Singapore, and H.E. Mr. Dukgeun Ahn Minister of Commerce of Korea. ​​​

He also met H.E. Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis Executive Vice President for Economy and European Commissioner for Commerce, H.E. Mr. Mustafa TUZCU Deputy Minister of Commerce of Türkiye, H.E. Mr. Vladimir Ilichev Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, and Amb. Cecilia Todesca Bocco Secretary for International Economic Relations of Argentina. During these meetings examine development relations and enhance economic cooperation. ​​​

Al-Kassabi​ clarified the role of group focusing on examining roles that G20 may adopt to ensure members’ ability to benefit from digital trade and to foster access of MSMEs participation in GVCs. In addition, the Kingdom is encouraging the efforts to seek benefit from opportunities of digital transformation along with micro, small, and medium enterprises to adopt modern techniques which are supporting inclusive and sustainable industrialization. Thereby contributing to support industrial sectors in the Kingdom by focusing role on abilities, talents, research, improvement, and innovation development. ​​​
