The first round of free trade agreement negotiations between the GCC countries and the Republic of Türkiye will take place on July 29–31, 2024, in Ankara, Türkiye, with the participation of (9) Saudi government agencies.

The first round of negotiations discusses several topics in trade in goods, services, investment, rules of origin, technical barriers to trade, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures, aiming at agreeing on the principles on which negotiations will proceed, as well as setting the framework for future negotiating rounds and their objectives to finalize negotiations as soon as possible.

It aims to exchange information and data, discuss trade challenges and opportunities among the parties, and build confidence and partnership through cooperation and joint coordination, paving the way for the next rounds to reach a comprehensive final agreement.

Moreover, this round is an extension of the signing of the Joint Statement to initiate Free Trade Negotiations between the GCC countries and the Republic of Türkiye​, which was signed between the General Secretariat and the Türkish side on March 21, 2024, which is an indication of the parties' desire to develop the strategic partnership.

The agreement gives a preferential advantage to the access of national products of goods and services in the markets of all parties through the liberalization of most goods and services, in addition to facilitating, encouraging and protecting investments, and increasing trade between the two countries, as well as promoting economic growth and development in member countries.

The Kingdom delegation participates in this round headed by the General Authority for Foreign Trade with the participation of: the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Investment, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Economy and Planning, Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and the Saudi Standards.

The Saudi negotiating team oversees and monitors the trade negotiations to ensure that they are consistent with the Kingdom's trade objectives and policies, participates in trade negotiations to incorporate the Kingdom's negotiating positions, and coordinates with countries with similar or similar trends in international trade.
