The Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concludes the Ministerial Meetings of the 39th Session. His Excellency the Governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, Dr. Saad bin Othman AlKasabi, headed the Saudi delegation on behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Foreign Trade, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah AlKassabi. The meetings were held from December 4–5, 2023, in Istanbul, Türkiye.


Several topics were discussed during the 39th Ministerial Session for the COMCEC in an effort to enhance joint cooperation in the commercial and economic fields through strengthening the capabilities of member countries, developing e-commerce, providing technical aid, supporting member countries in joining the World Trade Organization, in addition to the OIC Trade Preference System, activating the role of the private sector among member countries, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.


His Excellency Dr. Saad Alkasabi participated in the discussion “International Recognition for Halal Certificates," which touched on the significance of international recognition of Halal certificates and their role in reducing the issues concerning approved Halal products in international trade.

His Excellency met with the Turkish Minister of Trade, Dr. Ömer Bolat, and the Pakistani Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, where His Excellency discussed during the meetings ways to enhance trade relations and develop joint cooperation.


The Saudi-Turkish Joint Business Council witnessed during the roundtable discussion the signing of eight cooperation agreements between Saudi and Turkish companies in several economic fields, thereby enhancing trade and investment opportunities.


It is worth noting that the Committee includes working groups in the fields of commerce, tourism, agriculture, transport, communications, financial cooperation, and poverty alleviation. The objective is the production and dissemination of knowledge, exchanging experiences and good practices, and providing a suitable platform for mutual understanding and approximating policies between member countries to overcome common development issues.


The trade exchange between the Kingdom and the OIC countries reached almost $134 billion​ in 2022.​
