Duties of the General Department of Export Defense: 

 
 
 
 
 

  • Communicating with Saudi exporters upon the receipt of a notification from foreign countries to initiate a trade remedies investigation against the Saudi exports, and obtaining information in this regard.
  • Registering the Kingdom as an interested party in the investigation, preparing and submitting defenses and correspondences necessary to defend the Saudi exports subject to trade remedies investigations.
  • Providing technical support for the Saudi exporters during the procedures of the trade remedies investigations.
  • Representing the Kingdom in hearing sessions held by foreign countries.
  • Providing support and advice to Saudi exporters during the verification visits conducted by foreign investigating authorities.
  • Conducting consultations and negotiations in trade remedies investigations in order to avoid imposing measures against the Saudi exports or at least mitigating the severity of such measures.
  • Implementing the early monitoring mechanism to monitor anti-dumping, subsidy, or safeguard investigations initiated against the Saudi exports.
  • Examining information and documents available to the department regarding the investigation and communicating with exporters and providing them with consultations
  • Coordinating with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority and the General Authority for Statistics to obtain information and data that enable the department to defend the Saudi exports in trade remedies investigations against them.
  • Coordinating with law firms that represent the Saudi exporters and assisting exporters in appointing legal representatives.
  • Coordinating directly with exporters and their legal representatives when filing a case at the WTO dispute settlement body, and participating in preparing the legal memorandums/defenses and following up cases until a final decision is issued.
  • Participating in the preparation of statistics and periodic reports on trade remedies investigations that involve Saudi exports. 
  • Participating in preparing the Kingdom's negotiating stance/position in respect of trade remedies.
  • Participating in media campaigns highlighting the role of GAFT and the TRD. ​
