The General Authority of Foreign Trade participated in the 20th meeting of the Trade Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held on Tuesday, 12 Shawwal 1444 AH , 2nd of May 2023 AD. Continuing the Authority's role and efforts in highlighting the Kingdom's leading role regionally in improving the trade business environment and digital transformation of commercial transactions, the Authority during the meeting and in cooperation with the E-Commerce Center at the Ministry of Commerce reviewed a report on “E-commerce in Saudi Arabia" which discussed the importance of e-commerce in the Kingdom as being one of the main objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
It was also mentioned launching initiatives especially for e-commerce, including strengthening e-commerce education programs in academic institutions, enhancing the capacity of local service providers, restructuring the postal sector, supporting e-commerce services in non-major cities, and developing guidelines for cybersecurity in e-commerce.
The report indicated the main possible factors for e-commerce in the Kingdom, which include organizational, institutional, technical, logistical and financial infrastructure, as well as other possible factors that are still in the process of implementation.
It concluded with some proposals for the member states of the organization aimed at developing e-commerce business for the member states which promote increasing the inter-trade exchange. The most prominent proposals are the following: the importance of developing digital infrastructure, developing the legislative environment, organizing awareness and education campaigns, providing incentive programs for emerging companies, benefiting from the international experiences of developed countries in this field, and developing e-commerce platforms especially for medium, small, and micro enterprises.
